playroom fun!

Oh, how I wish I could say this was my playroom...it's not! dang!...My sister Melissa did this room as a surprise for her 3 cute little kids for Christmas. She had seen the alphabet wall online, but then made some modifications and personalized it for their family! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!
such fun paper, and bright colors, and LOTS of different textures make this a REALLY great focal point for this fun room!
One difference that my alphabet wall would have however...NO red U, and Y would definately be BLUE! (Yes she did the Y red on purpose...shame on her)
Way to Go Melissa...You did a great job!
Oh, and GO Cougars!

Beachy Bath

So I know it's been forever...I Know!  But that doesn't mean I haven't been doing stuff!  I have a couple of projects that I'm excited to share.  So this first project is my kids bathroom.  When we first moved in, I had 3 little girls, and thought pink and brown would be fun!  And for three little girls, it was.  Everything in this bathroom is pretty neutral, just brought in the colors with towels etc. And fyi...this bathroom is SO HARD to get good pictures of!  Believe me...I've tried LOTS!  anyhoo...2 years ago when my little boy was born, I knew the decor in the bathroom would have to change...cause I couldn't have a little boy using a pink bathroom.
I knew I didn't have to be in a huge hurry to change it, as
1. he wouldn't actually be using it anytime soon, and,
2.he wouldn't actually be using it anytime soon.
but what can I say...No, he is still not using it...other than for baths, but I'll take any excuse to redecorate!

I love wall treatments...well wood wall treatments, and so I decided to try something I had never attempted before.
I painted the upper 1/3 of the wall an aqua-y blue, and then used 6 inch pine boards.  At first I thought I could evenly space them and that they would be straight (as I got the straightest ones I could find) but wood is not straight...so I did my best.

break for cute baby...this was on Halloween...he's enjoying his candy...can't you tell?
anyway, moving on...I nailed the boards as close together as I could, and did this wall, and the little wall behind the toilet  this picture below shows my three towel hooks that had to be installed before the top board was on...that's why I painted that part first...didn't want to have to try and paint around those babies.   As a side note if I did this again, I would not use attach from behind hooks, as I can never add more, or really even change these ones out without completely tearing this down.
here is a close up of the corner, after paint and trim were added, I also used a 6 inch piece of pine to top off the boards, then used a simple door casing to pretty it up, and the picture ledge on top was the smallest, straightest, cheapest baseboard I could find.
then I decided with all this white, why not add more, and frame out the mirror!  SOOOO, I did!
I followed a tutorial I found here, and it was EASY!  I will definitely do this again!  I'll spare you all the details, but if you are thinking about doing this, check out Shelley's blog!  I think it cost about $15 in supplies to frame out the mirror!
So after mirror was framed and everything was painted, I added some new towels ( cause towels are definitely one of my favorite ways to decorate a bathroom, bought a new shower curtain, and wa-la...a more gender neutral bathroom:

that we love!

bottom line, It is a really fun space, it's light and fresh, the colors in there really pop, and, I pretty much did this all. by.myself.  I really like it...I still need a couple more small accessories, then it will be good.

On another note though...not sure I would do it again...I mean I like it, but I figure for the wood alone, it cost about $100, and I think I could have achieved a similar look and feel with bead board,  I'm still happy with it, and I wanted to try it.  So I'm glad I decided to try it in a little room, cause sometimes my ideas are cheaper in my head than in real life.

A "girl" cake!

Sunday we celebrated my daughter's 5th birthday!  She is an easy going kid, but her one request was that she wanted "a girl cake"
so, this is what I came up with...er, I mean copied from someone else who came up with this and then was kind enough to post it on the internet.  :)

It's not perfect, but it turned out cute...and just an fyi if you attempt to make a cake even close to this...DO NOT use a box mix...they just aren't heavy enough to hold the weight (on their side)  I made my no egg shocolate cake for this one.

you will need:
2 8 in rounds
2 containers frosting (I used cream cheese, cause that's the best)
1 large tootsie roll
4 large marshmallows
whoppers
m&m's
and green fruit leather.

It really was easy to make...once I had a good cake to use...and I did stick several toothpicks through...just for added support!

yes, I'm alive! Barely!

whew...it's been a while!  I've been busy!  I've been working on lots of fun diy projects...but for the life of me, I could not make any one of them interesting enough to blog about.  I didn't figure any of you would want a tutorial on touching up baseboards....SOOOOOOOO
It's official, we just put our house on the market!  Where are we going you ask?  Um,. we don't know!
I guess you could say we are taking a leap of faith, or maybe we are crazy...who knows, but that is where I've been. Where's that Mary Poppins when you need her?  Sorry I haven't been around to comment and share in all the bloggy love...I think this week will be better...maybe LOL!  Seriously though, it really is a leap of faith, we don't have a plan, just a feeling...so wish us luck!

just "Dishing It"

Photobucket

I'm happy to be joining in on Amanda's dishing it party!

I LOVE parties!  this is a party we can all join in on, and get to know each other better!

How long have you been blogging?

well, I've had a private family blog for a couple of years, but I just started this blog in February of 2010.

Why did you start blogging?

well, my cute kids were not getting the attention and space they deserved on our family blog...because it was being over-run with all of my projects and ideas.  I wanted one place I could keep track of things I've done, and also a place to keep ideas of things I want to do.

Tell me about your blog title, why did you choose it?

that's easy, I chose Delights because the things that I wanted to feature on my blog are the things that I delight in.  I really just did this blog for me, decorating, organizing, cooking, crafting re-purposing things and making them better...well those are my delights.

What do you blog about?

Actually, I'm still trying to figure that all out. LOL!  I have been really inspired by all the fabulous blogs out there...and I figured, if "they"  could do it, so could I.  I wanted a place to share "real" ideas on decorating and making a house a home.  I am the mom of 4 kids, my husband works 2 jobs, and we live in the real world..  My house gets messy, my kids are naughty sometimes, some nights we eat cold cereal for dinner, and I guess I  just wanted to share ideas and tips for other average everyday moms like me that might  help make life a little easier...or at least a little more pleasant to look at.

What is your favorite thing about blogging?

I really have enjoyed getting to know new friends...and keeping connections with old ones.  Before I had my blog I rarely left comments on others blogs, but one day I actually had something to say, lol!  And from that one comment, a friendship was built.   I was always good at leaving comments on friends and family members blogs, but I just felt stupid I guess for leaving them on someones blog I didn't know...well my outlook has changed on that.  I figure if someone has put enough time and energy into posting something, it means something to them.  No, I don't comment on every blog post I read, but I  love to read other peoples comments on mine, so if I can make someone else happy that way, then I want to do it.   It's been really fun to make new friends get new ideas, and be inspired by others, and hopefully I can inspire someone in turn.

If you had to choose one famous person to be your next devoted blog reader, who would you pick?

Wow, that is a toughy!  Really, I don't want anyone famous reading my blog...LOL, it's not that great! :)
I really just hope that the readers of my blog will get an I can do this sense...cause if I can do it, ANYBODY can do it!  I'm not a professional decorator, I'm not a gourmet cook, but these are things that I enjoy doing, and I just want to share good and fun ideas with normal people like me.  Did I just say I was normal? haha!

What is the funniest comment you have ever recieved on your blog?

I don't think I've recieved anything too funny.  after I re-did my playroom I got a comment from someone named Steph, and she told me I was crazy!  But, that she liked it.  at first I thought it was just my sister Steph, but when I clicked on her name, I had NO idea who she was, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.  turns out it was my other sister, logged in under Steph's name, and Steph had a blog on her list of blogs that I knew nothing about. so that was kind of  funny to me!  I'm sure I'll get more in the future, and I'm sure there will be others telling me I'm crazy too.

I look forward to getting to know others better too!
